Celeb blogger facing more legal woes
In an unprecedented show of solidarity, a group of seven paparazzi agencies have joined forces to seek millions of dollars from celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.
The legal action follows a lawsuit filed last week by the X17 photo agency against Mario Armando Lavandeira, who runs the popular PerezHilton.com site. Alleging copyright infringement, X17 is seeking $7.5 million (all figures U.S.) as well as a court order allowing U.S. Marshalls to seize Lavandeira’s computer and domain name.
Nicholas A. Penkovsky, lawyer for a group made up of Splash News and Picture Agency, Philip Ramey Photography, Most Wanted Pictures, Insight News & Features, Flynet Pictures, World Entertainment News Network, and Bauer-Griffin sent Lavandeira a letter on Nov. 29 demanding payment for all photographs he has published on his Web site since 2003 without authorization.
“These photographs have been reproduced, displayed and distributed on the Website all without my clients’ permission or consent,” reads the letter, which accuses Lavandeira of violating federal and state laws.
