Gala opening night of MADAMA BUTTERFLY
September 25, 2006 6;30pm
The nice thing about this event was that it was over by 6:30!
PR provided us with a lot of room, but we still ran three deep in places. Two arrival areas for stills; one as the talent arrived, then video followed by another stills area. I wish there would be more events at the MET, tons of room.
We also had a great list of talent; Meg Ryan, Jude Law, Sienna Miller, Liv Tyler, Naomi Watts, Sean Connery. It was nice to shoot in daylight with talent in good fashion.
But don't fret my friends... we'll be shooting everyone in black overcoats at night soon enough!

JOHN GIBSON, HOST: It was just another day for one shutterbug paparazzi in L.A. until Justin Timberlake and his gal pal Cameron Diaz decided to fight back. According to a police report filed by the actress, a paparazzi jumped out of a bush. The two chased after him. Then the photographer came at Diaz full speed in his car.
Is this a case of a paparazzi gone mad, or should the famous couple have left the guy alone? Star magazine editor at large Jill Dobson is with me now from L.A.
So, Jill, sorting out the facts will always be a little tricky in these things, but what do we know the facts are at this moment? Who was attacking whom?
JILL DOBSON, STAR MAGAZINE: Well, what first happened is that Cameron and Justin were leaving a friend's home in Hollywood just after midnight Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, and apparently the paparazzi photographer was in the bushes and took a picture of them and startled them. And then according to the police report, at that point, Cameron started running after him for what she called a short distance, and at that point he got in his car and then, according to Cameron, started driving toward her. And at that point, she feared for her life and had to jump out of his way, and she actually called it assault with a deadly weapon. The car being the deadly weapon.
But the question here is: How scary was this for the photographer, because Cameron and Justin have had run-ins with the paparazzi before. In fact, in 2004, they chased after a photographer and reportedly Cameron grabbed his camera and Justin, you know, nearly hit him. So there have definitely been some tensions between this couple and the paparazzi for several years.
GIBSON: All right, now there is a new California law — we put a little fullscreen up on the screen that shows what the law includes. This goes into effect or went into effect in January of '06. It supposedly provides stronger protection for celebrities and their families. Triple the dollar damages if an assault takes place.
Does this actually put the paparazzi guy on the defensive here?
DOBSON: I think it does, and I think there is a need for a law like this. Certainly when celebrities' lives are in danger, if a photographer is coming after you in his car, or if you're driving and there are so many photographers around you that you fear for your life, there certainly has to be some legislation, especially in Hollywood, to protect the celebrities, and I think that's why this law was put into place.
GIBSON: Jill, the other thing is, people sometimes wonder why the photographers go to these lengths to get these pictures? What is a picture of Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake worth?
DOBSON: Well, a picture of them, not that exciting. However, they were recently photographed for the first time holding hands, because they generally don't show affection in public because they don't want to make the paparazzi happy. So that particular picture, not that much.
On the other hand, you know, a picture, Anna Nicole's picture of her son, the last picture of him alive, just sold in a bidding war for approximately $400,000 for the rights for magazines, plus another $250,000 for TV. So there's money in it. It just depends on how exclusive the photo is and how valuable it is for the magazines and the TV shows.
GIBSON: So this explains some of the paparazzi's motivation?
DOBSON: Right. And the real key is to either devalue your own photo, and that's like when Sarah Jessica Parker had her baby she invited the paparazzi to come take pictures of it. And that way, no one had the exclusive and people left her alone.
GIBSON: Jill, I've got to run. Jill Dobson, thanks very much.
DOBSON: Thank you.

Cameron Diaz Declares War On Paparazzi
Washington, Sept 21(ANI): Actress Cameron Diaz has filed a police report charging a photographer with assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly trying to hit her and boyfriend Justin Timberlake with his car.
The couple were leaving a friend's home in Hollywood just after midnight on 19th Sept when a photographer who had been hiding in the bushes jumped out and tried to take a picture of the pair, said a police officer Marjan Mobasser citing Diaz's report.
"Ms. Diaz and Mr. Timberlake both then chased him a short distance," Eonline! quoted Mobasser as saying.
The unnamed photographer allegedly got inside his vehicle "and drove toward the couple, forcing Diaz to jump out of the car's way. Diaz felt the photographer was trying to hit her with his car so she filed an assault with a deadly weapon with a vehicle police report," added Mobasser.
No-one was immediately arrested and no suspects have been identified.
However on 20 Sept photo agency X17, for which the photographer in question was working, posted a statement on their website saying that the photos were taken on a public street and that "the pictures show at least two people verbally and physically assaulting" the photographer.
The agency further added that the photographer was not trying to hit Diaz with his car but was "attempting to leave what he perceived to be a dangerous situation for him and when he tried to do so, Ms. Diaz and at least one other member of her entourage stood in front of his car in an attempt to entrap him."
"The photographer is currently in the process of filing a complaint against Ms Diaz and Mr Timberlake," the agency said in a statement.
This is not the couple's first run-in with paparazzi, in 2004, a photographer sued the pair, charging them with assault and battery. The lensman, Saul Lazo claimed that the 'Charlie's Angel' actress ran after him and took his camera after he snapped a photo of them outside Hollywood's legendary Chateau Marmont. Another photographer who witnessed the scene, Jose Gonzalez, later claimed that Timberlake clocked Lazo on the head.
Reps for the couple said they were "ambushed by two men, who jumped out of a concealed hiding place on a dark, deserted street late at night. Any actions by Diaz and Timberlake were merely taken in self-defence." (ANI)
X17 Photo Agency Response Statement
The pictures and video of Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz early morning on Tuesday, September 19 were taken on a public street where there was no “Private Drive” or “Private Property” sign visible. What the photographer knows he saw and what the pictures show, were at least two people verbally and physically assaulting him. Reports stating that Ms. Diaz has told police that the photographer tried to run her over with his car are completely false. The photographer was attempting to leave what he perceived to be a dangerous situation for him and when he tried to do so, Ms. Diaz and at least one other member of her entourage stood in front of his car in an attempt to entrap him. He drove around them at what he perceived to be a safe distance, as at least five members of Ms. Diaz and Mr. Timberlake’s group were yelling at him, making threats against him. The photographer is currently in the process of filing a complaint against Ms. Diaz and Mr. Timberlake.
Diaz A Repeat Offender
It seems Cameron is now accusing our photographer of assault with a deadly weapon in relation to the incident early Tuesday morning when she and Justin were physically and verbally assaulting our photographer (see story below).
Want the truth? ... Justin and Cameron were telling our photographers to leave (you can hear our photographer in the video, saying that he's leaving) and then as one of our guys was trying to leave the street, Cameron stood in front of the car, blocking him, saying that she wanted him to stay until the cops came.
Our photographer wasn't even sure she had actually called the cops and he felt threatened by her actions and those of Justin and the other members of their group (after Justin had already tried to grab his camera), so he drove around Cameron to escape her attempt at entrapment.
You don't tell someone to leave and then stand in the middle of the road, girlfriend!

This Is Not Bringing Sexy Back!
How many times are Justin & Cameron going to do shit like this??? Lighten up!!!! If you don't want to be famous and rich and have your fucking picture taken, then don't live in Los Angeles!
According to the photo agency, this is what went down:
We caught the lovebirds arriving to party in the Hollywood Hills last night and when they saw our photographers, Justin went crazy. Cam had to restrain him from doing who-knows-what our photogs -- he was apparently trying to grab our guy's camera and was yelling at him to get away and to stop shooting pix, though the scene was on public property (in the street).
Then Justin's mom, Cameron, Justin's cousin and business partner Trace and some of the rest of their entourage joined in and our photog retreated. Apparently that wasn't good enough -- the pair have apparently filed a police report. Geez, sorry -- what ever happened to a smile and a wave?!
It seems like the photog caught up with Justin before his nightly bong hit. Chill out, dude! CLICK FOR PHOTOS HERE!
TIMBERLAKE IGNORES FIGHT WARNING AS PAPARAZZI ATTACK AGAIN
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE forgot the promise he made to Los Angeles' police chief when he found himself scrapping with photographers early yesterday (19SEP06). In a recent Rolling Stone article, the pop superstar admits LA's district attorney "slapped the back of my hand" after Timberlake 'stole' a camera during a fight with snappers who tried to take shots of him and his girlfriend CAMERON DIAZ on a night out in 2004. But, despite a warning that he "shouldn't retaliate with violence," Timberlake was at it again when paparazzi targeted him and Diaz early on Tuesday. Los Angeles police officials are investigating an incident involving the celebrity couple and the paparazzi after learning that Timberlake had to be physically restrained during an altercation with a snapper. But this time, it seems the singer had every right to lash out. Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Media Relations official MARJAN MOBASSER has told US news show Extra, "Cameron was the victim of a possible assault with a deadly weapon. The deadly weapon was the car that the photographer was driving. "Miss Diaz was under the impression that the photographer was driving towards her and had to jump out of the way.
Photog says 'E.T.' money an alien idea
Freelance photojournalist Larry Birkhead - who claims to be the father of Anna Nicole Smith's newborn daughter - yesterday insisted he's not trying to cash in on the tragedy that has befallen his ex-girlfriend.
Television insiders told Lowdown that the thirtysomething Birkhead - who met the young widow of octogenarian oil billionaire J. Howard Marshall when he photographed her at the 2004 Kentucky Derby - received thousands of dollars for on-camera interviews with the Paramount shows "Entertainment Tonight" and "The Insider."
But yesterday, Birkhead told Lowdown: "I did not get paid to do my interview." Birkhead hasn't given interviews elsewhere about the mysterious death of Anna Nicole's 20-year-old son, Daniel Smith, in her Bahamian maternity ward Sept. 10.
Yesterday he told Lowdown he has turned down major bucks from TV outlets around the globe. "I've been approached by people that I can't even understand the language they're speaking," Birkhead said over the phone from an undisclosed location. "I've been offered everything under the sun, but I haven't accepted any offers for anything. I don't have any plans to."
And while Internet users must pay to browse Anna Nicole's Web site, which also sells merchandise, Birkhead said: "There's nothing for sale on my Web site, there are no membership fees." Birkhead added: "I wouldn't even respond to you, but the story picked up legs that I was getting paid - and I wanted to set the record straight."
Birkhead said he picked the Paramount shows - which paid Anna Nicole's reps an estimated $250,000 for the right to broadcast snapshots of the Playboy model, Daniel and the baby, while In Touch Weekly forked over around $400,000 - because: "It was a large audience. It was a quick way to get the story out."
Asked if he had received a cut of the photo money, Birkhead said: "Absolutely not. I haven't even seen the baby."
On "E.T." Birkhead said that if he was allowed to see the baby, reportedly named Hannah, "I would hold her, kiss her and tell her, 'You know, Daddy loves you, and sorry I couldn't be there when you were born.'"
Smith Sells Son's Photos To Pay For Funeral
Distraught former Playboy Playmate Anna Nicole Smith was forced to sell photos of her son Daniel taken the night before he died in order to pay for his funeral expenses. The family portraits were taken in a hospital room in the Bahamas two days after the birth of Anna Nicole's daughter and hours before her 20-year-old son was found dead. Photo agency Getty Images sold the photos to US publication In Touch for $400,000 after a fierce bidding war. According to In Touch executive editor Dan Wakeford, "We purchased the photos, beating the competition. The photos were extremely emotive, and our readers are incredibly intrigued by this story." Wakeford says the images show "a perfectly healthy young man." While it is unclear what portion of the proceeds will go to Anna Nicole, a source tells American publication Us Weekly that the devastated star sold the pictures in order to pay for her son's funeral. The source says, "She needs the money." Getty Images claims that a portion of the profits from the sale of the photos will go to a charitable foundation to be set up in Daniel's name. His body remains at Butler's Funeral Home in the Bahamas and won't be released to the family until the investigation into his death is complete.

Reverend Bob Harrington of Texas had a few not-so-nice things to say about the Simpson family:
"Their father has replaced his faith in the Lord with the love of money, which is the root of all evil. He has replaced holiness with horniness. Jessica and Ashlee will reap the dismal crops they are sowing. Their breasts will sag and their faces will wither and they will be left with nothing but a hollow shell. They don't represent American standards and certainly not Christian standards."
Jessica and Ashlee Simpson's dad, Joe Simpson, has reportedly become a paparazzi to make some side cash and to influence how his daughters are portrayed in the media.
According to sources who've had recent dealings with him, Simpson has a tight working arrangement with WireImage, the mega-agency and wire service that rules the red-carpet at nearly every high-profile event in the western hemisphere. On several occasions, a camera-wielding Simpson has ... READ MORE HERE!

LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) - Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were "rescued" from the paparazzi by considerate restaurant staff.
The couple - who recently unveiled the first pictures of their baby daughter Suri in Vanity Fair magazine - were enjoying an intimate dinner at plush eatery Il Ristorante di Giorgio Baldi, in Santa Monica, California, on Saturday night (09.09.06) when they were spotted by photographers.
Almost immediately the snappers had set up camp outside the restaurant, waiting for Tom and Katie to emerge so they could photograph them... READ MORE HERE!
Lohan thanks the paparazzi to find her purse
Lindsay Lohan has offered a heartfelt thank you to the paparazzo who found her missing purse with nearly $1 million of possessions still intact. Darryn Lyons assisted police at Heathrow Airport and helped to locate the pricey Hermes Birkin bag that contained "a quantity of jewellery".
Lohan's attorney Michael David Heller said, "Lindsay wants to say a massive thank you to Mr Paparazzi Darryn Lyons for handing back her bag to her today after his paparazzi film crew helped catch the thief and return her belongings.
"She feels that maybe justice has been served, and karma may have played a role in the return of her bag today given that the paparazzi are usually a pest to her and today they have been a Godsend."
VENICE, Italy (Hollywood Reporter) -- Paparazzi are coming under fire in Venice.
Ben Affleck, who stars in "Hollywoodland" -- a film about the mysterious death of Superman actor George Reeves -- took the opportunity to lash out at the photographers eager to snap his shot.
"I think more and more people pay attention to actors' private lives (and that) makes it difficult to suspend disbelief when you are going to watch their movie because really what you are thinking about is whatever you have read about them in a magazine rather than the performance they are giving, and it makes the actor's job harder," Affleck said at a news conference.
"The movies become incidental pit-stops and commercial breaks in the soap opera of their life."

Forget Paris? Not with paparazzi
Hilton's DUI arrest is captured by many
By ANDREW BLANKSTEIN
Los Angeles Times
LOS ANGELES — Paris Hilton's arrest early Thursday for allegedly driving her rare Mercedes-Benz drunk through the streets of Hollywood was less Dragnet and more reality TV.
The entire episode was recorded exhaustively by a pack of paparazzi. It included a guest appearance by an Entourage star and culminated with Hilton cheerfully describing the whole affair on Ryan Seacrest's radio show.
There was none of the secrecy that surrounded Mel Gibson's DUI arrest last month.
The arrest of the socialite-heiress-TV personality was captured by so many photographers and in such minute detail that some compared it to the crush surrounding a Hollywood awards show. ... READ MORE HERE!
Ellen DeGeneres has thanked the paparazzi for hitting her car.
It has been revealed the vehicle that shunted the US talk show host's automobile in a three car smash in West Hollywood last Friday (01.09.06), was being driven by two photographers from a news agency.
On her TV show on Wednesday (06.09.06), Ellen joked: "It's good to have paparazzi around when you're in a car accident."
Talking about what happened, one of the snappers Josh King, says he couldn't believe his luck.
He explained to Extra TV show: "It was like, 'Oh man, we just hit Ellen'.
"Ellen as far as being consoling was great. She got out of the car and the first thing she was worried about was whether we were okay, which was nice."... READ MORE HERE!

Paris Hilton not getting into Bungalow 8 I think was the story of that night!
The outrage! A yawn overall! What did you guys think of the event and afterparties? Any guys cover Beyonce's bash?
September 1, 2006
Radio City Music Hall
It was a crazy week.
The parties were so-so, it all depended which ones you went to. Over all it was lackluster...
The VMA's weren't that bad. We had a long red carpet and we only ran two rows deep about 3/4 of the arrival area. We had plenty room to double dip. :)
Press room wasn't that bad either. Beyonce, Lil' Kim, James Blunt, Axl Rose...
The only bad thing was the imaging that I had to do till 6am.
Now that it's all over...IT'S FASHON WEEK TIME!
I'm on vacation for a while...so enjoy the mayhem you sickos!
