"It's Over For You!"-Nicole Kidman

BEWITCHED World Premiere
Ziegfeld Theater
June 13, 2005
7pm screening

Photographers full names and vile language comments will be deleted.
Keep it clean folks!

One bad apple can spoil the whole bunch... More about that after the details.

They built a tent that covered the entire red carpet arrival area. Unfortunately, THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAD ISSUED A HEAT ADVISORY FOR NEW YORK CITY. Mid 90's and high humidity. In NYC, that's deadly. All that heat was trapped inside the tent...then add 50+ photographers...ouch.

Initially, there was not enough space allocated for B-List shooters. PR placed A-Listers in front row spots, followed by B-listers. Space was low by the time half the list was called. More space was finally opened up, but photogs ran 3 rows deep throughout the line. Arrival area was in the shape of a reversed "L", followed by video.
......at 11:25am there were 23 people on the list. Over 60 by the event start.....

Local NY riff-raff show up, then Will Ferrell...he had fun posing way too close to the photogs....
Ta-Da! Ms. Kidman arrives.

Most of the shooters that shot her on Letterman had just arrives and were flooding the press pit towards the beginning. This is where opinions about the arrival will vary.....

If you were in the front crew....you got screwed. After posing for the first crew, she headed towards the larger mass of photographers. It was at this time the one photographer decided to "Boo" her, accusing her of not posing. Kidman then came over to that photographer and pointed at him saying " You are the rudest person...", followed by "It's Over For You!" and she walked away. This caused all the photographers to go crazy, yelling and screaming for attention. Nicole was visibly shook up by the situation, as it was hard to get a smile out of her afterwards....One bad apple....

Anyone else want to take it from here....?

She posed more than usual. Really made the effort. Gave up the two-shot right away. THANKS to the bigmouth who had to "boo" her. I had never seen Kidman pose as much as she did tonight. Still, loudmouth had to be heard. NO WONDER CELEBS hate photogs more and more with each passing day. BOO to you bigmouth. You know who you are.

why, why, WHY, WHY, WWWHHHYYY, WWWWWHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYY ?

I think we will all agree that she looked the best we've seen her in years, great fashion, smiling (well before... you know), actually posing and giving it up like I NEVER saw her do before... NEVER, EVER...

We had all the ingredients for a once in a lifetime GREAT Nicole Kidman photo op...

And we couldn't help but F@#$% it all up, courtesy of Mitch "I-Have-To-Run-My-Loud-Mouth" at everyone and can't just open my eyes, use my brains and keep it in check...

Any other day I would have been the first one booooing, because in the past she's been known to be very "hard" to shoot and very "difficult" to deal with...

But not today, today, for once, we were set to have a GREAT photo op with Nicole Kidman in New York !!!

When was the last time that happened ? Guess when she was with Tom... like 5 years ago...

I got some good stuff being right at the begining of the carpet... She got out of her car smiling and happy to be there and posed for us outside of the tent, got some good stuff there, but few fashion shots as she was very close to us...

Then she moved down and posed with Will, got a bunch of 2 shots... Then she moved further down and was going to pose for the rest of the photogs when he had to open his mouth and mess it up for everyone...

My guess is, considering the mood she was in, she might even have come back towards the begining of the line to pose alone again... had he not messed it up for everybody else...

We all know what happened next, she posed alone for the A-List area (and they got screwed on the 2 shot, when they're the ones who really needed it...) and even though she looked over her shoulder a bunch of times, we couldn't get any pictures because her security guy was punishing 20+ of us while punishing the "rude one" by standing in our way the whole time...

She might have posed again after the first interview, if she'd been treated right, but we'll never know that...

Now, the question I'd like to ask is :
Why can't we just all behave like professionals, keep the friendly atmosphere of the "waiting time" and carry it over to the shooting time...

Being a photographer doesn't provide you from using your brains, right ? Or is there some sort of photographer's illness I don't know about that shuts down your thinking abilities the minute you put your eye in the viewfinder ?

We have plenty of reasons to be unhappy about this and that, and I'm not the last one to open my mouth when something wrong or unfair happens... as long as it's justified...

Tonight, there was no reason whatsoever to booo Nicole, none, whatsoever, for the first time in years !!!!

And if my memory serves me well, he is the one who was asking Nora Ephron to stay around for a 2 shot with Nicole... useless picture... we got the 2 cast members shot... better picture... and he still wasn't satisfied and had to screw at least 20 other photogs with his misplaced attitude...

When I see things like that happening, aside from the fact that it drive me nuts, I seriously wonder how we ever gonna improve our working condition and our image...

Tonight, because of one individual who had it all wrong, all of us took 3 steps backward and appeared as our usual caged animals with no manners and no respect...

Once again, all the trash TV entertainment shows are going to come down on us like vultures on a dead rabbit, accusing us, as a whole, of being a bunch of out of control loonies, the Extra host was already asking about what happened and trying to get names and nasty details as soon as the arrivals ended...

If everything had gone as it was set to be, we would have probably ended up applauding Nicole tonight for her never seen before posing... and moved 3 steps forward, appearing as well behaved, appreciative professionals...

I've never been in favor of any kind of drastic "witch hunt McCarthy style" measures, especially among ourselves, but contemplating what happened tonight I think we ought, as a group, (if we want any kind of respect from publicists, celebrities, media, etc... and hence decent work conditions) to start thinking real hard at what we are doing, how we are acting on the job, and how we can get that respect from people we work with on a daily basis...

And it's certainly not by keeping up with our line of conduct of late...

It's bad enough already that all of us without distinction are labelled as "paparazzi" with all the "scum of the universe" unspoken meaning the word carries ever since Diana died, that we don't need to make it any worse by fueling the medias (especially TV) with more ammo any time we can...

Oh - and a big P.S. - - Everyone was aware that Nicole Kidman had suffered the death of wither a friend or family member today. WE ALL KNEW THIS. All the more reason for fotogs to excersize a little more decorum than usual... Again, i gotta ask, what sort of brain malfunction are you suffering from, big M?

In regards to the space issue, some earlier posts indicated that they thought it would be better if we did away with the list and had PR assign spots. I think tonight was a good example of why this is a bad idea. Before they moved half of the A-listed inside, there were maybe 3 front row spots for the rest of us. I know if it was up to PR, I’d be stuck somewhere in the third row.

ZePhotog said...

Well not necessarely, because by having the PR taking care of the list, we're also providing them with an info they're lacking right now : a definite amount of photographers...

They'll know ahead of time how many photographers to expect and hence will be able to plan their space accordingly...

Well, at least, one can hope... Since it's the way it's being done (and working fine) in L.A.

PR should handle the event and not leave it in the hands of us psychos. Make room for the people that are confirmed, if theres space left over for the stragglers, good, if not, oh well??

its the only way of reducing the mass amounts of photographers that show up to every single fart of an event in this city....

QUESTION:

I haven't extended this blog link to any PR or publicists but will there be a point when it's ok for them to know that this blog exists?

There are advantages but then again, I don't trust too many of them.

hmmmm...

We may ant to keep this blog on the down low for a while so we can figure out which way it's heading before we advertise it on a wider scale and take the risk to make it known to PR's and / or medias...

We know all too well how this content could be misjudged, altered, and even used against us...

Let's give it some time before exposing it... Well, in my opinion...
